The Give Kids The World Adopt-A-Villa program is a unique group volunteer opportunity that helps the Village continue to be the place where happiness inspires hope. Dedicated groups spruce up, clean up and maintain these truly unique buildings that our families call home while on their dream vacation. Thanks to a special partnership formed through volunteerism, Adopt-A-Villa veterans, Sierra Land Group, found a way for the Village to welcome over 100 new families next year.

SLG_ImbAfter years of support through volunteerism and program support, Sierra Land, the parent company of the Caribe Royale Orlando, Buena Vista Suites and Embassy Suites Orlando – Lake Buena Vista South, decided it was time to do some serious work in order for the Village to continue its mission. In February 2013, the company announced they would donate $380,000 toward the construction of two brand-new villas, in addition to their ongoing fundraising efforts towards the Village Campaign.

This generous donation comes from the Don and Lorraine Freeberg Foundation, named for the late owner of Sierra Land, Mr. Don Freeberg. Current president and CEO of Sierra Land Group and director of the foundation, Shirley Hough, along with 42 representatives from the foundation and corporate and local management, gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony and check presentation with wish families and GKTW staff.

“We feel blessed to be a part of the magic created at Give Kids The World and greatly value the important service they offer so many children and families around the world,” said Shirley Hough. “We are very active in the Central Florida area and helping fund these new villas is our way of ‘paying it forward’ while helping provide much-needed vacations to those who are facing such serious health challenges.”

“The generous donation from the Don and Lorraine Freeberg Foundation will enable us to welcome more than 100 additional families to Give Kids The World Village each year,” Pamela Landwirth, GKTW’s president said. “The need is so great that we currently must house some families off-property on occasion. Thanks to Sierra Land Group and its foundation, we are making progress on our goal to host every child with life-threatening illness and their families whose wish is to come to Orlando in our whimsical Village.”

Give Kids The World cannot wait to see what new magical memories will be made thanks to the new villas. What was your favorite villa memory?
