The Scarlet Knights Call a Timeout for The Cupid Shuffle

in The Donor Experience

On their way to the Russell Athletic Bowl, Rutgers and Virginia Tech’s football players spent some time at Give Kids The World Village.  Upon arrival, the players joined the Village celebration for a morning dance party with our wish families.  Players from both teams watched and learned as Mayor Clayton and Miss Mary demonstrated the Cupid Shuffle. Many caught on quickly and even added their own flare to the moves. Others joined wish children for games such as chicken toss, checkers and a pickup game of basketball.

While the party continued on the Avenue, a special donation was being shared in the Gingerbread House. Rutgers’ Head Coach, Kyle Flood, and Director of Football Relations, Gene Bataille, surprised us with a Baltimore Ravens helmet, signed by running back Ray Rice, to add to our Amberville collection.  Kyle was also joined by his two children, Isabella and Joseph, who insisted they leave a little bit of Scarlet Knight spirit in the Gingerbread House.  With Gene’s help, Joseph was able to place a Rutgers stuffed toy among the many stuffed animals that decorate the Gingerbread House.

As the morning came to an end, many of the players took time to pose with families and give out some super-sized hugs. Even Mayor Clayton found time to sneak in one last group hug.  The Village waved and wished both teams the best of luck in their upcoming game.

RutgersBlog_Imb3Thank you to Rutgers and Virginia Tech player and coaches for visiting the Village.  We hope you all enjoyed the party as much as our families did!
