Group to complete 70.3 mile Ford IronMan at Walt Disney World;
will strive to raise $70,300 for GKTW, or $1000 for every event mile
Orlando, Florida – (May 18, 2007) – Sometimes it takes doing to realize just how much you can actually do. In an unprecedented grassroots show of fundraising support, three men with a goal (ThreeMG) intend to raise over $70,000 for Give Kids The World Village, armed with little more than running shoes, swimsuits and hefty doses of ambition and drive.
What is ThreeMG? “Three out-of-shape guys who love sports and kids, and want to give something back,” according to www.ThreeMG.com, the website created by Larry Rhodes, Michael Cain and Nathan Palmer. The three friends work for Disney Sports in Orlando and volunteer at the Village regularly.
“We’re going to compete in the second most grueling endurance event in the world - the Half IronMan: a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run. 70.3 total miles of endurance exhilaration,” say the men, despite never having competed in a triathlon previously. Their goal is to raise $70,300 or $1,000 for each mile of the Ford IronMan 70.3 Florida race. The Ironman will be held at Walt Disney World on Sunday, May 20. “What motivates us 100 percent is Give Kids The World and those kids,” says Rhodes, “we’ll continue competing until we raise the money for that new villa.”
Give Kids The World has made a promise to never turn a child away. GKTW hosts over 6,000 children each year, but 25,000 children are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness annually, and when given the opportunity, more than half wish to visit Central Florida attractions. Demand for these wishes is forecast to increase about 6 percent each year through 2015.
Give Kids The World Village is the only resort of its kind worldwide that can fulfill this ever-increasing need. ThreeMG’s support will assist GKTW with the expansion effort currently underway to accommodate this growth. Please visit www.ThreeMG.com to lend your support and to learn more about the incredible journey of three regular guys named Larry, Michael and Nathan, who are getting it done.
