All Hands on Deck to Deck the Halls

The holidays are a big deal around the Village, both during this season and all year round. They’re a great time to make lasting memories and spend time together as a family. That’s why our community of staff, volunteers and partners all come together to do everything we can to create an atmosphere worthy of these celebrations.

A HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Through our Adopt A Villa program, local businesses and organizations assemble teams of volunteers who come together as the season begins to decorate the interior of our villas. These villas serve as our wish families’ home during their Central Florida vacation visiting the theme parks. For many of the groups this is just one of many volunteer outings they will take part in throughout the year. However, this one is extra special to some.

During a recent outing, team members from Universal Orlando Resort spoke about its importance. “The holidays are a season of love and giving,” said Christian. “Give Kids The World gives our team a great reason to come together as a family and be able to give to those who sometimes may need it the most.”

Another Universal Orlando team member, Lauren added, “Knowing that you are bringing a little holiday magic and wonder into these families’ lives really makes your heart feel full. Just imagining the looks on the kids’ faces when they come back to the surprise of a tree and decorations is so fulfilling.”

RESORT-WIDE REVELRY

Outside, the transformation continues. From the lights on the buildings lining the Avenue, to the giant stockings hung with care on the walls of Amberville, to the towering Christmas trees both inside and outside of the House of Hearts welcome center, it’s everywhere you look.

This festive metamorphosis is the handiwork of our dedicated engineering team. They spend weeks painstakingly hanging wreaths, placing ornaments, draping garland and more to fill the Village with the wall-to-wall holiday cheer that surrounds our families this time of year.

A WEEKLY WINTER WONDERLAND

But it’s not just during November and December that the Village gets in the holiday spirit. In order to make sure all of our families are able to enjoy the holidays, we celebrate them every week. On Thursday evenings, the Village entertainment team transforms the Avenue and Amberville area with actual snowfall (in Florida!) and a magical holiday parade during the Winter Wonderland Party.

Each child gets a chance to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus inside the Hoppening Place, pose for photos and even pick out their own present. This experience can be as satisfying to some of our volunteers as it is joyous to the children. “Once you’ve been to the Village, you’re hooked,” said one of Santa’s helpers. “If I can make kids smile and be happy, I’ve done my job.”
