in The Donor Experience

Pin_ImbWhen Yonker’s Montessori Academy (YMA) teacher, Karen Lotito, first heard about Give Kids The World, she knew it would be perfect for her high school class’ intersession. An intersession is an integral part of a Montessori education that includes a week of study outside of the school building. Contributing to the community through service and shared experiences is an important part of the Montessori philosophy, so Karen and her students decided that helping the Village would be a part of their intersession.

Pin_Imb3After watching GKTW’s videos and reading about the Village, Karen’s students decided that they wanted to help bring smiles and fun memories to wish children. Students worked together to create colorful pins featuring the Village’s cherished venues and icons. “We were so touched by your organization that we made decorative pins that reflect the Village’s influence,” said Lotito.

In addition to the beautiful pins, Lotito and her students hung flyers asking families and staff to donate new and gently used children’s movies. As a result, three boxes of children’s movies were collected for the families visiting the Village to enjoy. These movies will be a welcome addition to the Village’s Dive In Movie event, where families can relax and enjoy a movie under the stars.

Give Kids The World is honored to have been chosen as the community service learning opportunity of YMA’s Florida Intersession. The students’ hard work and dedication is guaranteed to create smiles and leave lasting memories for our wish families.
