This December marked the 10 year anniversary of Marc’s DinoPutt. Opened in 2002, this pre-historic themed putt-putt golf course features seven holes of golfing fun. Marc’s DinoPutt is home to many friendly dinosaurs and was uniquely designed for the Village by our friends at Universal Studios. Thanks to our dedicated Angel volunteers, this course is open all day. Many families even return from the theme parks a little early to play a round or two.
Each hole of the course is fully accessible and features special effects that families love. On hot days, Hole 3’s misting dinosaurs can be a welcome break. And when you are ready to warm up, head to the 30-foot volcano at Hole 4. But beware, sneaky dinosaurs might be waiting to pop up and say “hello!”
Marc’s DinoPutt was named after Marc McConnell, a wish child who visited the Village in 1999. After his wish trip, Marc dreamed of returning to watch over the Village and bring joy to other children. Marc began speaking to groups about his time at Give Kids The World, and ended each speech by asking the audience to commit to being an organ donor and to sponsor GKTW. In 1999, The American Cancer Society named Marc “Survivor of the Year.”
During the DinoPutt dedication ceremony each contributor was given a book of Marc’s poetry. Within this book was a tribute to Marc’s legacy: “With an upbeat attitude and laughter, Marc shared a message of faith, courage, compassion, and made it a priority to inspire others to enjoy the gift of life in each and every moment.”
Marc continues to inspire staff and volunteers alike at the Village. He lives on, not only through his story, but through his wonderful family as well. In mid-January, GKTW will have the pleasure of welcoming back Marc’s mother, Jill, as she shares what the wish experience was like for her entire family.
“We cannot begin to express the impact Give Kids The World continues to make on all of our lives. Marc’s DinoPutt is a tribute far more extraordinary than a dream could ever envision. Marc’s final wish has been fulfilled-he will not be forgotten. Thanks to Give Kids The World, children come to know that their presence here on earth is valuable, no matter how long their length of stay. We remain forever grateful.”
On behalf of all of us at Give Kids The World, we are grateful to be part of Marc’s story and strive to make him proud with each wish fulfilled.
