Kissimmee, FL (November 30, 2012) - Give Kids The World (GKTW), a nonprofit organization that provides cost-free vacations for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families, raised nearly $50,000 in a 24-hour period through an online match campaign launched on November 27 in conjunction with #GivingTuesday™. On this inaugural national day of giving, businesses, individuals and families were inspired to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back to the charities and causes they support, and help create a better world.
Called Giving TWOSday, the online campaign asked GKTW supporters to make an end-of-the year donation to the charity, which would be doubled thanks to an anonymous family from Naples, Fla., who pledged to match all gifts up to $10,000. In just one day, hundreds of fans made donations through a specially-created Giving TWOSday First Giving site as well as calling in phone pledges and even dropping off cash and checks at Give Kids The World Village. The campaign utilized the power of social media by encouraging fans to show their support of Giving TWOSday by writing a “2” on their hand and then sharing the picture on their Facebook or Twitter page.
“We are so thankful for the generosity of our supporters from around the world who exceeded our expectations for Giving Tuesday, nearly quadrupling our anticipated donations for the day,” said GKTW president Pamela Landwirth. “Their gifts will allow us to provide a week of unforgettable, magical experiences for the precious children we serve and their families.”
